Putting up the Marquee

The Little Women the Musical Marquee
Going up at the Virginia Theatre
August 30, 2004

Here's one of the big signs lying on the ground prior to its installation. As you can see, even on its side it's still pretty tall...half way up the first floor window! Notice the heavy-duty strap bolted to the top—that's how it's tied to the crane.

They pull it up with a big crane and a steel cable. The crane is behind the sign. In front of the sign, a man in a cherrypicker bucket guides the sign to keep it from bumping into things.
Lining it up.... You can get a good idea of how big the sign is now compared to the man in the bucket.
Almost there....
Once it's lined up correctly, it's bolted securely into place.
Here's the whole thing, taken from the west. They're still cleaning up a bit, but you get the picture!
Producer Randall Wreghitt poses with Andy Wilder, Little Women the Musical's musical director, under the new marquee.
There's also some posters up around town. This one's near the Longacre Theatre......
...and this one's in Shubert Alley.

Playbill.com also has some pictures of the finished product!
